Movie Review: The Lost City

Paramount Pictures

A wild adventure awaits you with The Lost City. Is it worth a watch?

The Lost City centers on Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock), a romance novelist who undergoes an unexpected wild adventure after she is kidnapped by Abigail Fairfox (Daniel Radcliffe), a man who believes that Loretta has answers to unlocking a hidden lost city (All based on a novel she wrote). We also meet Alan Caprison (Channing Tatum) who is the cover model of Lorettas novels. Alan comes to the rescue after witnessing the kidnap moments after a book tour stop presentation Loretta’s publicist urges both to do. Loretta wants something new and fresh. Who makes it alive? You will have to see for yourself.

The Lost City is a fun watch due to its stellar cast and the hysterical plot. They don’t make movies like this anymore which is why the movie is special. While watching the film all I could compare it to was the remarkable late 90s and early 2000’s comedies that delivered corny jokes that cause authentic laughs. Robert Zemeckis is who directed the film. Some of his credits include Death Becomes Her, Back to the future, The Witches, to name a few. Zemeckis is back with what made him unique in the comedy genre. The Lost City will be compared to Disney’s The Jungle Cruise as it has the same elements of adventure and romance, but it exceeds to a higher level due to its great script. Paramount Pictures has a big hit under its belt. This can easily become a memorable franchise like Indiana Jones. I tell you, it’s that good!

One problem I did find with the film was how some jokes were delivered too quickly without really giving the audience room to think. It felt like jokes were rushed and but that could have been due to the editing of the film. Bullock and Tatum bring the house down with natural chemistry on screen. By the end of the movie, you are in love with their story and wish there was more. (Sequel Please?) Brad Pitt is hilarious but was underused. Pitt only had about 10 minutes of screen time which was a missed opportunity for director Robert Zemeckis to make a dynamic trio.

The Lost City is a wild ride from beginning to end that includes charm, raunchy jokes, bust-out loud moments, and a message of love. Real love does exist. Do not miss this one!

The Lost City is now playing in movie theatres.
