Most recently seen as Rose in the recent Broadway revival of Caroline or Change and who also started as the original Elsa in the stage adaptation of Disney’s Frozen, Levy made her way to Orange County. Levy hosted three unforgettable cabaret-style performances with music from her past Broadway credits, original music, and covers that are special to her.
In an intimate setting, the show included songs from Rent (Levy’s first national tour where she booked the role of Maureen), Wicked (Elphaba), and Ghost (London’s West End production where she originated the role of Molly) to name a few.
Levy is phenomenal. Her voice travels thru the room in a beautiful and heavenly way. She captivates you with her instrument that makes you feel emotions that feel very raw. In a moment of the show, she sang the song “I dreamed a dream” from Les Misérables, and oh dear, she sounded astonishing. This was an epic moment in the performance as she mashed the popular song from Les Mis with “I’m not that Girl” from Wicked. It was a very special moment for anyone who is a fan of musical theatre and or of Levy.
Levy shared a lot of personal stories that got you to understand her journey as an artist. I enjoyed when artists do such things because it shows that they are human just like everyone else. Levy shared the stage with her music director Matt Hinkley who supported her with an acoustic guitar and a piano. Also, Levi shared funny theatre stories that lighten the night. Another highlight of the night was when she sang the song “Popular” from Wicked. Levi shared that this solo concert was an opportunity she could use to sing a song she always wanted to perform. Levy’s charm is contagious. She knows how to move you and give viewers what they want. If you have a chance to see Levy, I say see her because she is magic.
Levy is no longer at the Segerstrom Center of the Arts, but the cabaret series continues with Tony Yazbeck on March 24-26, 2022. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.SCFTA.org
