With choreography by Dana Solimando, musical direction by Ryan O’Connell, and direction by Cynthia Ferrer, this production is nothing short of entertaining. As soon as you step into the theatre, you’re transported into Elle’s pink-hued universe. It’s commendable that the creative team has updated the material to make it more relevant, incorporating technology from the start, as seen with the UCLA students. However, the set design occasionally falls short; at times, it feels like the cast is simply delivering lines without dynamic scenery to bolster the action. Nonetheless, Solimando’s choreography shines brightly, paying homage to the original Broadway musical while adding refreshing twists that enhance this modern adaptation.

Michael Thomas Grant and Kathryn Brunner star in the LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS & McCOY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT production of “LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL,” directed by Cynthia Ferrer and now playing at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.

The cast brings vibrant life to the production, with Kathryn Brunner as Elle Woods and Michael Thomas Grant as Emmett Forrest standing out. Brunner was born to play Elle—her performance is so compelling that she deserves a role in any future revival. She elevates the character with captivating stage presence and a profound depth that adds layers to the iconic role. Grant also delivers a remarkable Emmett, displaying a nuanced understanding of the character and an engaging chemistry with Brunner. A delightful surprise is Little Ricky as Bruiser, who lights up the stage with his charm and deserves a spotlight of his own. Legally Blonde: The Musical at the La Mirada Theatre recaptures the magic of the original Broadway show, offering fresh OMG moments, laughter, and a heartfelt message about self-love and the transformative power of hard work.
