The Chickens are back in one of the most anticipated sequels this year, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, which changed the animation industry in 2000 with stop-motion animation, is making a comeback with upscale innovation in animation not seen in a very long time, providing nostalgia to fans, and providing a delight story that feels like a holiday feast.
This time around, the story focuses on Molly, who is Ginger and Rocky’s first daughter. After the events of the first film, all that Ginger wants for her family is safety, but when Molly discovers there is more to the island they live in, Molly embarks on a journey where trouble arises and old villains return. Ginger, Rocky, and her crazy gang go on a mission impossible style adventure to save Molly from becoming a meal.
The film provides a plot that is easy to follow and engaging. As soon as the film begins, an appealing, dazzling, and matchless world offers glowing and rich colors. Although at moments, the stop-motion animation can feel repetitive, the filmmakers focus more on delivering a story about survival, understanding, family bonding, and self-discovery. Each character is relatable, aiming to deliver real-life lessons.

At moments, the film feels one tone as most of the voice talents stay in one range, desiring for more emotions in line delivery, but it also works for the type of animation style the film provides. Although some of the original voice talent is not involved, everyone tries their best to provide good voice characterization. For those who are fans of the original, it can cause distraction. Standout includes Bella Ramsey as Molly, whose voice is unrecognizable and is quite charming. Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi bring both protagonists alive in what lacks connection. At moments, it feels like they are friends, than a married couple.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is worth the watch as the film is short, creates nostalgia, delivers positive lessons, includes the return of stop-motion animation, and provides pure entertainment. The film feels like a mission impossible for the youth. It’s great to see what these beloved characters have been up to since their last adventure and how much they have grown. The film is a holiday festive, just don’t eat the chickens, as they also deserve to celebrate their newest run.
