The Walt Disney Company is ending strong this year with its newest full-length animated feature, Disney’s “Wish”. This unique look on making a wish honors 100 years of the company with pure heart and magic and also includes Asha, the newest heroine at Disney.
In Disney’s “Wish”, Asha (Ariana DeBose), a young brave woman, makes a powerful wish to save her Kingdom of Rosas. Through comedy, magic, Easter eggs, and musical numbers, we undergo an adventure with Asha and her friends to defeat Magnifico, a dishonest and two-faced leader who tricked the people of Rosa into thinking that their wish is safe and will be granted.

Oscar®-winning director Chris Buck (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and Fawn Veerasunthorn (“Raya and the Last Dragon”) deliver the perfect fairy tale that offers inspirational messages of courage, human connection, teamwork, protection, persistence, expectations, and wishes. Each character’s purpose feels sufficient to the story it presents, creating what feels like a new, organic approach to what it means to wish. We all know what It’s like to make a wish, but both directors give us an alternative approach to rethink the meaning of making a wish which can lead to benefiting not just you but others as well. Both directors take on the challenge to honor the animation styles (2D, 3D, CGI) used since the company was established, creating a new dynamic style that can be used for future projects. Both directors also offer countless Easter eggs that honor past animated projects, which also work flawlessly to help the storytelling and musical numbers move in a great direction.
Asha and King Magnifico who are set to become instant favorites are voiced by two talented actors who use their compelling voices to create a new upscale “out of the box” technique of storytelling. Asha, voiced by Academy Award®-winning actress Ariana DeBose is a luminary light from beginning to end. She uses her powerful voice to connect. DeBose channels flawlessly all qualities of the Disney heroine to perfection. King Magnifico voiced by Chris Pine, seduces you with his different levels of tones which will make you either love him or hate him. Magnifico is indifferent, atrocious, vicious, and ruthless. Pine illustrates these characteristics well when he is singing and interacting with other characters. Another character who will capture everyone’s hearts is Star. She is used as a comic relief and teaches us many lessons throughout the film.
Without a doubt, Walt Disney would be proud of what the Disney Company has achieved with “Wish” which is set to become an instant and timeless classic that audiences will remember due to its unique songs and story. Disney’s “Wish” distinguishes well themes of wishing, hope, true love, enchantment, and wondrous that are gleeful and will make you want to wish upon a star. The film serves remarkably the past, present, and future of the Walt Disney Company.
Disney “Wish” hits theaters on November 22. DO NOT MISS IT.
