“The Marvels” is the sequel to the 2019 box office phenomenon which introduced Captain Marvel to the world. In the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Carol Danver known as Captain Marvel with Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parri) along her side, unite and combine forces against Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), a kree leader who wants to redeem herself from pain and save her own planet from vanishing.

Directed by Nia DaCosta, delivers an inviting story that full-bodies different levels of girl power with its three stars. When the film begins, DaCosta pivots to reintroduce the three main characters on a larger scale, which feels quite instinctive, as she focuses on delivering important background points that do not feel lengthy. DeCosta then moves on to create a story that is suitable for the future of the MCU. Decosta challenges the MCU by showcasing the power of switching and transforming into another character that feels melodious. The fight choreography is top-notch as it displays fight sequences that we haven’t seen before. Each fight sequence correlates with the mission of the story, making kicks and punches showcase supremacy.

From the trio, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel steals the show, showcasing convincing moral principles that feel true to the characters’ development on-screen which also honors the comics accurately. Captain Marvel played by Brie Larson thrives strong with the material she is given, showcasing a more mature and painful Captain Marvel who realizes that her actions have led to consequences. She conveys the message very well. Teyonah Parri who plays Captain Monica Rambeau reaffirms why she was chosen to play this role, as she gives a sense of struggle, power, tenderness, and sincerity in her performance, especially in the third act of the film.

‘The Marvels’ is a fun ride from beginning to end. Decosta achieves to create a female-focused story that conveys a message of accepting differences, forgiveness, believing in sisterhood, and understanding that family will always be there, no matter what circumstances come your way. Marvel Studios is back!

*The film features one mid-credit scene, DO NOT MISS IT. ‘The Marvels’ hits theaters this Friday.
