Movie Review: ‘The Creator’ is wondrous visually, but yet includes a story that falls short in connection and humanity

‘The Creator’ tells the story of Joshua who mourns the disappearance of his wife, but yet is recruited to face a war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence. Joshua to end the battle between mankind and AI forces must kill the world’s most dangerous weapon, the creator who has made it into the form of a young child.

What feels like a different film not revealed in trailers, ‘The Creator’ falls short of making an impact within the sci-fi genre, and it feels somnolent. In the beginning, the film decides to focus on the love relationship between Joshua and his wife but then shifts directly to the problems within the universe, which begins to fall short in the importance of the connection and reality especially for its principal roles. The film is divided into segments that feel like chapters, which is appreciated as a creative effort, but then begins to lack of sense of certainty of what is important in the film, which also feels very long and some moments feel pointless.

The film gets interesting once we first encounter the creator, but then never reaches its full potential, as then the film becomes a mouse and cat chase adventure. The third act is the most impressive as it includes the most stunning visual effects, which then becomes an enjoyable experience.

The film includes a great ensemble cast that tells the story, but none of them become relatable as not a lot of character development happens, which causes their purpose to get lost in so much battle between both worlds. Madeline Voyles as Alphie does an excellent job of showcasing a very mature child whose purpose is to focus on peace rather than war.

‘The Creator’ is visually stunning but lacks truth. The film feels more like an attempt to make the sci-fi genre a more story-based genre, but sadly doesn’t get to the finish line. The film is great but lacks originality and also connection.

The Creator is now playing in movie theaters.
