Creators of Tony Award®-winning global hit, The Play That Goes Wrong have joined forces again, now launching Peter Pan Goes Wrong on a national tour across America. The members of the Cornley Drama Society venture now to Neverland as they attempt to perform J.M.Barrie’s Peter Pan. Pixie Dust is not on their side when everything decides to go wrong during their most ambitious performance.

Director Adam Meggido brings a unique, immersive theatrical experience which begins when you take a seat. Before the performance, actors take you within their wings and bring you into their world with silly conversations and preparations that offer a sense of how the night will go. Meggido brings a wildly wholesome, talented ensemble that showcase stunts that are obviously staged, but feel so real due to the bold transitions. Meggido also decides to reveal important plot points for the society characters to demonstrate profound characterization and purpose. They are small, but do play an important part on the story’s developments during the second act. Fans of “The Play That Goes Wrong?” might feel that some of the practical jokes/stunts are reused in this production. But yet will be surprised as the creative team steps up their game in production creativity and include a rotating stage that helps the story move in a good direction. We are all in the joke when a stage set falls into pieces, but the rotating stage helps to add an extra bit of magic.

Special Guest Stars are joining Center Theatre Group at the Ahmanson Theater, Emmy® winner Bradley Whitford of The West Wing and Daniel Dae Kim of The Good Doctor. Whitford (August 9 – 27) and Kim (August 30 – September 10) will appear as the Narrator. Whitford appeared on opening night, which surprisingly added a modern tone to the play. Whitford, as the narrator includes subtle throughout the show to show solidarity with WGA. These moments are clever and create clarity and loud applause. It’s very well done and is not at a level where it feels coerce. The whole cast is stupendous, but Nancy Zamit who plays Annie (also plays Tinker Bell, Wendy’s mother, and others) steals the spotlight as she glorifies the stage with moments that are hysterical and quite memorable.

This is not the Neverland you know, but “Peter Pan Goes Wrong” is insanely good, creating unique pixie dust of uncontrollable laughter and theater magic for the whole family.
