Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ welcomes back the Addam family in a new series focusing on the clever, unsympathetic, brutal, gloomy, and something of a psychopath Wednesday. In the series, Wednesday played by the talented Jenna Ortega is shipped out to Evermore Academy where she discovers a supernatural mystery unfolding in front of her eyes. Wednesday finds that Evermore Academy isn’t what it all seems, but it is a place full of secrets, monsters, legacy, and maybe one or two cute boys. Wednesday becomes a gothic Nancy Drew menacing her family and all her relationships at Evermore.

The Addams Family has been thru multiple adaptations that include a 1964 sitcom, animated films, live-action films, and a Broadway Musical. Netflix Wednesday is nothing like you have seen before. Focusing primarily on Wednesday, the series brings a new light to the famous family and character. From the beginning of the first episode, the creative team pulls the viewer into a position of investment. The story falls into a space that is easy to follow creating themes of authenticity, family dynamics, overcoming fear, friendship, and solitary, all of which are relatable. Oh, and great cliffhangers that will have the viewer not wanting to stop watching.

Tim Burton adds his rich experience in four episodes that are oddly good, creating a nostalgic recollection of his hits. Once again, Burton shows why he is loved by so many for his craft. Jenna Ortega was born to play Wednesday. As episodes go by, Ortega puts her full foot forward to make the character her own with a sharp notion and interpretation. Jenna Ortega is impeccable, making the character likable and engaging. You could tell she studied the character and took the role very seriously. I mean those dance moves! Come on, PURE PERFECTION!

Some viewers will compare the series to other favorite fandoms when speaking about the academy, but what makes Wednesday unique is how developed all the characters are, the storyline is captivating, the twist and turns are wild, and it has the word nostalgia written all over it. Other standouts in the series include Christina Ricci who creates a new character that is set to become a fan favorite. She is peculiar and quite unusual. Don’t worry, She and Jenna work together nicely to honor the iconic Wednesday to the screen.

Do not sit on Wednesday, It’s easily one of the best series made this year! You won’t want to stop snapping your fingers. Netflix Wednesday is streaming now on Netflix.
