Movie Review: Jurassic World Dominion

Universal Pictures

The epic conclusion to Jurassic World is here and it’s holding a 34% being rated the worst-reviewed movie in all six films in the franchise. It’s not as bad as it all seems though. Let me tell you why.

It’s been four years since Nublar island was destroyed. Dinosaurs live among humans and other animals. A new threat can end the future for everyone living in this world. Claire Dearing and Owen Grady return with familiar faces Alan Grant, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum to save Maisie Lockwood who is wanted by scientists for a special DNA they believe can make the world better for all.

The last film to Jurassic World is nothing to brag about. Director Colin Trevorrow loses a chance with the epic cast of the six films to create something completely fresh. Instead, he fails to deliver a film that does not evolve its beloved characters and gives them the ending they deserve. Trevorrow does an excellent job on bring new and old dinosaurs to the screen that fans will rejoice to see, but sadly the film feels more like a recycling project, and the It factor of what made the franchise so special is gone.

In this film, Bryce Dallas Howard is a showstopper, she comes face to face with dangerous scenarios that will make you gasp and have you out of breath. In my opinion, she had the most action-pack scenes which sadly is the closest we get to what’s special about the franchise. Chris Pratt, feels more like a supportive character and you find yourself rooting for other principal characters and not him. Trevorrow’s choices are troubled and humorous in what he brings to the epic conclusion. In the last film, he places the characters in situations we are used to and are quite random and add nothing special to the problem they are facing. It feels more like something these characters will always live with, escaping from danger. I would have loved for each party to have a happy ending in which all parties involved live peacefully in their own world. Also, Viewers might have an issue with the inconsistency and urgency of the plot, which will bring questions that are not answered by the end of the film.

A stand-out in the crowd is the talented DeWanda Wise who plays Kayla Watts. She takes risks, is a team player, is quick-witted, and is what we hoped the last film would be. Kayla brings something new to the last movie which is on-point humor and is the big hero of it all. Kayla saved the epic conclusion.

Jurassic World Dominion might not be what we hoped for and might not have any purpose, but its new dinosaurs, its action pack segments, and the cast reunion is worth a trip to see it on the big screen. By the second act, the film feels like you are on your own Jurassic world vehicle living your own story, escaping from these dangerous animals, and never thinking of reality. Don’t worry though because Kayla Watt will come to save the day.

Jurassic World Dominion is playing in movie theaters.
