If you are looking for a fulfilling summer blockbuster, you have found it with Top Gun Maverick. Joseph Kosinksi’s sequel is peachy. It’s adequate for today’s time as it brings together generations. Kosinksi’s accomplishes it all by bringing a good action pack story with reliable topics of bravery, determination, confidence, and love. Tom Cruise delivers a performance that makes you fall in love with Maverick all over again. Fans of the first film will enjoy the nostalgia with familiar faces from the first movie and an opening sequence that will immerse you into Maverick’s life. It feels like the 36 years that it took for the sequel to be created, never happened. It’s that good.

What some might find awful in the film are Maverick’s lousy jokes. Writers Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie do well in positioning good emotional dialogue between the graduates and Penny Benjamin played by Jennifer Connelly which makes up for the bad jokes. The film is much stronger during emotional and action pack moments.

Top Gun: Maverick is a great popcorn action film that offers a great moving story where all its principal characters give an edge-of-your-seat performance. It offers a message that we all deserve a second chance and with teamwork, we can accomplish whatever our hearts desire.

Top Gun Maverick hits theaters on May 27. Do not miss it!
